Build the Pendant First: The Story Behind a One-of-a-Kind Jasper, Onyx & Black Jasper Set

Build the Pendant First: The Story Behind a One-of-a-Kind Jasper, Onyx & Black Jasper Set

Some jewelry designs begin with a color palette. This one began with a pendant.

I chose the focal beads first, then built the necklace around them. The warm orange-red jasper brings the color and energy, while onyx and black jasper add depth and contrast. Gold-tone square spacers give the beadwork a little structure without taking attention away from the pendant.

Designing outward from the focal point

Rather than adding a pendant to a finished necklace, I wanted this piece to grow from the center. Each bead was chosen to support the pendant and lead the eye naturally down to the dramatic drop. The matching earrings carry the same jasper, onyx, black jasper, and gold-tone rhythm, so the finished set feels intentional from top to bottom.

That is one of my favorite ways to make jewelry. A special bead can suggest the entire design, and the rest of the piece becomes a conversation with it.
