Vintage Mixed Micro-Shell Necklace — Zebra Nerite Accents, Continuous Strand, 36", Early 1980s
Dozens of shells. One continuous strand. Completely irresistible.
This vintage 36-inch necklace is densely strung with a rich mix of small natural shells in a creamy ivory palette — Nerite snails, smooth Marginella and Olive shells, small Turban shells, flat Limpet and Slipper shells — all in warm cream and white. Scattered throughout as dramatic focal points are Zebra Nerite shells, their bold black-and-cream striping popping against the soft ivory of the surrounding shells like
punctuation marks.
The density of the stringing is remarkable — this is not a sparse shell necklace. It drapes in a full, lush rope that moves beautifully and catches light from every angle. At 36 inches it can be worn long as a single strand or doubled for a layered collar effect.
Travel-acquired in the early 1980s, when this caliber of hand-strung shell jewelry was being made and sold across Pacific Island and coastal craft markets.
